CLEVELAND, Ohio — Browns second-round running back Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned and won’t report to training camp today with the rest of the rookies.
Veterans report on Tuesday, and the first full-squad practice is on Wednesday.
Cleveland.com reported earlier this week that the Browns have told Judkins to prioritize his legal matter over football right now, and they’re doing the same.
The Browns are continuing to gather more information on Judkins’ misdemeanor domestic battery charge against his girlfriend in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month before determining how to proceed.
If his case mirrors that of fellow Ohio State second-round pick Mike Hall Jr., the defensive tackle drafted last year, the Browns will give Judkins a second chance after he serves a possible suspension by the NFL.
The heir apparent to Nick Chubb, Judkins repeatedly punched his girlfriend during a confrontation over some text messages on her phone when he picked her up at the Fort Lauderdale airport on July 7, according to the police report. He first punched her in the mouth and chin area, and then in the arm and leg after she moved to the back seat of the rental car, the report said.
She waited five days to report the incident because of Judkins’ high-profile status, and concern over hurting his career. As heard on non-emergency 9-1-1 call provided by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, she said “I thought that we could work through it and obviously we couldn’t. So I’m trying to do the right thing now.”
She also told police Saturday morning, “I am still in pain and I have a lot more of my story to tell. I still have visible bruises and evidence on my body of the event.”
She also submitted photos to police.
This story will be updated.
