There is normally very little drama in negotiating contracts for players picked after the first round. Things were a bit different this year, however, as second round picks across the league pushed for more guaranteed money in their first NFL contract. On the whole, they were successful. The guarantees for this year’s second round class are more generous than those from years in the past.

The reality is teams had every reason to bend. The potential losses in guaranteeing more money were miniscule. These weren’t issues worth letting high picks start camp holding out.

Taylor joins the Jets with a good chance to earn the starting tight end job from day one. There isn’t great competition. Now he will be able to get to work.
