Arsenal are actively evaluating attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that Arsenal and Chelsea are among several Premier League sides closely monitoring RB Leipzig’s Dutch star Xavi Simons.

The 22-year-old midfielder, known for his versatility and creativity, is reportedly open to leaving Leipzig this summer following the club’s failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Despite his recent permanent move from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2025, costing Leipzig a club-record €50 million plus €31 million in bonuses, Simons has made clear his desire to seek a new challenge. Leipzig have set an asking price of around €80 million (£68.5 million), with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool all credited with interest.

Simons enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 33 matches. His ability to operate as an attacking midfielder or winger has made him a highly sought-after target in this summer’s transfer window.

However, Arsenal may face a strategic decision as they also push to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. The 27-year-old England international is a key target for Mikel Arteta, especially following a standout campaign in which he registered 15 goals and 11 assists across all competitions and scored the winner in Palace’s historic FA Cup final triumph.

Eze’s £68 million release clause has become a focal point of negotiations. Reports indicate Arsenal are exploring a structured payment plan, with a proposed initial fee of £45 million followed by performance-based add-ons. The Gunners are also believed to be considering including a player in the deal to reduce the immediate financial outlay. Eze is reportedly keen on a move to the Emirates, despite rival interest from Tottenham, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

Arsenal’s interest in Simons dates back to last summer, but the size of the transfer fee and competition from other elite clubs could complicate their pursuit. Barcelona have also been linked, though Romano notes that their interest remains unconfirmed at this stage.

With deals already completed for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Chelsea duo Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke, and Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, and with talks ongoing for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, Arsenal may be forced to prioritise between Simons and Eze as they aim to reinforce their creative department ahead of a pivotal campaign.

Romano’s latest update suggests that while Simons is open to a move to England, no formal offers have been submitted, leaving Arsenal in a strong position should they choose to act swiftly.
