It’s not even training camp and Seahawks are already trusting the wrong starter

It's nearly time to open training camp, and the Seattle Seahawks have quite a few positions that fans will love to watch. Position battles may or may not open up at certain spots, but one area that's seemingly locked down for the time being is also one where the Seahawks have been getting it wrong.

The running back room has a good chunk of talent, however the Seahawks have just about run out of time with the idea that Kenneth Walker III is their starter. Instead, it's about time they hand the job to Zach Charbonnet.

This is now training camp number three in which Charbonnet will presumably be a backup, but with so many offensive changes over the offseason, why not make one more?

It's Charbonnet time.

The Seahawks have to make a notable training camp switch at running back

Continuing to bank on Walker would be doing a disservice to the rest of the offense. At this point, we have seen Walker's yards per carry dip in every season since his rookie year. He has gone from 4.6 to 4.1 to 3.7 yards per carry from 2022 to last season.

Meanwhile, Charbonnet has made the best of a lackluster offensive line at times. His 4.2 yards per carry might not have told the entire story last year,

Who did the Seahawks depend on in situations where they needed a first down? Walker had more carries on the year, but finished with fewer first down runs (28 vs. 32). Charbonnet also posted a full 1.5 yards more per reception than Walker, which proves he's far more valuable in the passing game.

Seahawks fans also know about Walker's injury concerns being more significant than Charbonnet's, and that is another reason to roll with the latter. Shoot, we've even seen a minor injury scare out of Walker this year, already.

In a contract year, Walker very well could have a huge season and surprise us all. But, it would make a lot more sense to play the better player above all else.

One last point: both were drafted with the same level of capital, the second round. What else is stopping this staff from making the switch?

It's time.
