Lloyd Howell is gone, but that hasn’t stopped the reports from emerging.
Via Don Van Natta Jr. and Kalyn Kahler of ESPN.com, Howell’s resignation came after an outside investigator received documents this week showing that Howell charged the NFL Players Association [for a pair of visits to strip clubs](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45769802/ex-nflpa-boss-lloyd-howell-strip-club-expenses-sent-investigator).
It’s possible that the documents, and the looming report, caused Howell to step down.
One visit happened in November 2024 in Miami. The other happened in Atlanta, earlier this year.
The charges included more than $700 for a car service in Miami and more than $2,400 at Magic City in Atlanta, including cash withdrawals ranging from $200 to $525.
Howell reportedly instructed another employee to submit the expense reports. The expenditures were justified by calling them “Player Engagement Event to support & grow our Union.”
Per the report, Howell had a similar issue arise during his employment with Booz Allen Hamilton. In 2015, Howell and a colleague reportedly “racked up thousands of dollars for the night’s entertainment” at a Manhattan strip club. Howell’s colleague reportedly sought reimbursement on an expense report.
Howell was reprimanded, and his colleague was fired.
On one level, the issue of NFLPA expense reports for strip clubs is irrelevant because Howell has left. On another level, at what point is everything that’s been happening with the NFLPA going to prompt an ambitious federal prosecutor to convene a grand jury?
