Club moves to protect wonderkid from Everton, Brighton and Tottenham target

Vasco da Gama are advancing talks to renew Rayan’s contract for the second time this year, as reported by [Globo Esporte](https://ge.globo.com/futebol/times/vasco/noticia/2025/07/17/vasco-tem-conversas-avancadas-para-renovar-com-rayan.ghtml).

The 18-year-old striker had already extended his deal in April until the end of 2026, but the club is now pushing for a new agreement that would further increase his salary, lengthen the contract and raise his release clause.

The club sees this move as both a reward for the player’s recent form and a strategy to better shield him from growing interest in Europe.

[According to previous reports](https://ge.globo.com/futebol/times/vasco/noticia/2025/06/20/da-para-segurar-como-rayan-saiu-de-venda-certa-a-imprescindivel-no-vasco.ghtml), Premier League sides Brighton, Everton and Tottenham have all shown concrete interest in the youngster.

Brighton, in particular, were seen as front-runners in June and were reportedly preparing a bid in the region of €14-16m, but Vasco are holding out for around €20m.

The new deal under discussion would give the Brazilian club greater leverage ahead of any future bids. Vasco are keen to keep Rayan until at least the end of the year and hope his value will rise further through potential appearances in the U-20 World Cup and the Copa Sudamericana.

Rayan has been part of Vasco since the age of six, making his way through the youth ranks and debuting professionally in 2023.

His rise has accelerated in recent months under manager Fernando Diniz, who described the forward as “irreplaceable” and warned that selling him now would mean letting go of a player “for far less than he’ll be worth.”

Sporting director Admar Lopes echoed that sentiment, saying he expects the player to stay, although he acknowledged that a release clause remains in place.

According to the Brazilian source, his contract already signed in April includes performance-based triggers for an automatic extension beyond 2026, a safeguard to prevent another last-minute race to keep the player in 2025.

Despite financial challenges, Vasco remain determined to resist pressure from abroad and are relying on their close relationship with Rayan’s father to help manage the next steps in his career.

For now, the expectation is that he remains in Rio until at least the end of the current campaign.
