AS Monaco have officially announced a one-year contract extension for Danish striker Mika Biereth, keeping the 22-year-old at the club until June 2030. The move, confirmed via the club’s official website, rewards Biereth’s outstanding performances since joining from Sturm Graz in January 2025, and solidifies his status as one of Ligue 1’s most exciting emerging talents.

Biereth initially signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Monaco for a reported €13 million plus €2 million in add-ons, but his immediate impact exceeded all expectations. In just 16 Ligue 1 appearances, he netted 13 goals and registered 2 assists, playing a crucial role in Monaco’s successful push for Champions League qualification. Remarkably, he set a 21st-century record as the first winter signing to reach that goal tally in a single Ligue 1 campaign.

The London-born forward, who plays internationally for Denmark, made headlines with three hat-tricks against AJ Auxerre (in just 8 minutes and 10 seconds), FC Nantes, and Stade de Reims and scored a decisive winner in a heated 2-1 derby against OGC Nice. His exploits saw him finish in the top 10 of the 2025 Golden Shoe rankings, confirming his growing reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal young strikers.

Reflecting on his swift adaptation to life in France, Biereth told BBC Sport: “I’m happy to find myself at Monaco and enjoying myself in life and in football. Everything is working really well.” Describing himself as an “old-fashioned” striker, Biereth prioritises goals over flair, earning comparisons to Jamie Vardy for his aggression, movement, and clinical finishing.

Biereth’s path to Monaco has been anything but straightforward. A product of Fulham’s youth system, he finished as the top scorer in the Under-18 Premier League South in 2020/21 with 21 goals and 13 assists before joining Arsenal in 2021. He quickly impressed in Arsenal’s U23s, including a standout hat-trick in a 6-1 rout of Chelsea. Loan spells at RKC Waalwijk, Motherwell, and Sturm Graz refined his game, with the latter move yielding 14 goals in 25 matches, including two in the Champions League, prompting Monaco’s January swoop.

His meteoric rise also earned him international recognition. He made his senior debut for Denmark in March during the Nations League and scored his first international goal against Lithuania in June.

Monaco’s decision to extend Biereth’s contract aligns with their commitment to building around young, high-potential players, as seen in recent moves for stars like Paul Pogba and Ansu Fati.

Currently training with Monaco’s squad in England for pre-season, Biereth has already opened his account for the 2025/26 season, scoring in a 5-0 friendly win over Coventry City, an early sign that his scoring streak is far from over.
