Europa League star 'subject of transfer battle' between Sunderland, French giants

Sunderland are reportedly set to battle French giants Lille for the signature of FC Midtjylland striker Dario Osorio this summer.

The Black Cats have made a return to the Premier League following an eight-year absence and started brightly prior to the international break.

Regis Le Bris's troops picked up a respectable tally of six points across their opening three matches, sending them into the top half of the table.

The North-East giants commenced their campaign with a eye-catching 3-0 victory over West Ham United, before losing at Burnley a week later.

Sunderland were soon back to winning ways, making it back-to-back successes on their own patch with a triumph over Brentford.

Sunderland, Lille fight for Osorio?

According to South American outlet Bolavip, two European clubs are chasing the signature of highly-rated Osorio this summer.

Firstly, the report claims that Premier League newcomers Sunderland are keen on bringing the 21-year-old to the Stadium of Light.

As well as the Black Cats, it is understood that French giants Lille are also in the race for the services of Osorio in the coming days.

It is believed that the right midfielder is looking to secure a switch away from Midtjylland before the conclusion of the current window.

Despite being reluctant to lose one of their star players, the Danish club are supposedly looking to pocket £15.5m from the potential sale of Osorio.

Who is Osorio?

After making waves in his homeland at Universidad de Chile near the beginning of the decade, Osorio made the leap to Europe, signing for Midtjylland in 2023.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed an exceptional campaign so far for the Wolves, scoring four goals and bagging four assists across 11 competitive appearances.

Osorio's displays on the continental stage have been particularly impressive, with the Chilean providing four goal contributions from five Europa League matches.
