Iraola expecting 'movement' for Cherries in final days of transfer window

It has been a busy summer for the club with both outgoings and incomings.

Key players last season Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi, Kepa and Dango Ouattara have all left, while more fringe players who were out on loan have departed, including Neto, Philip Billing and Jaidon Anthony.

But the Cherries have made astute signings to rebuild, bringing Bafode Diakite, Adrien Truffert, Djordje Petrovic, Amine Adli and Ben Gannon-Doak to the south coast.

Bournemouth are still on the hunt for another centre back and have been in talks with AC Milan over right back Alex Jimenez.

Asked after the side’s 1-0 win at Tottenham on Saturday if he’s expecting a busy end to the transfer window, Iraola said: “I think there is going to be movement.

“The club is working towards signings but you never know. The situation now changes every hour. I haven't touched it now after the game, so I don't know where we are but I will try to help the club.

“But for me the best thing is that we arrive to the September 2. I hate this moment of uncertainty of ‘you are here but you don't know if you will be tomorrow’.

“And it's difficult to create collectiveness in this moment and I'm really looking forward to finishing the market and this is who we are and build something together.”

On if there were any specific positions they were looking for players in, Iraola said: “I think in the last day of the market you have to be alert and aware of every opportunity to try to improve the team.

“It's true that probably we miss this central defender that we need.

“After signing Bafo \[Diakite\] we need \[one\] because we've lost Dean, we lost Zabarnyi, so we need another central defender. But if not we still have options and we will deal with the situation. But it's true that we are working on it.”

Rumours have suggested David Brooks could be a target for other clubs, but Iraola was clear – they would not be selling the Welshman.

“We are going to keep David Brooks,” he said.

“Yes, definitely. He has started every game. I think he has been playing very well.

“It's going to be a strong competition for everyone like in every position. But no, he's an important player for us and yes, we're going to keep him.”
