David Moyes was full of praise for new transfer Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after his superb performance for Everton on Saturday. The midfielder scored what eventually turned out to be the winning goal in the 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Dewsbury-Hall has been an instant hit with supporters since his £25 million arrival from Chelsea this summer. He started the campaign well with tidy performances at Leeds United and then in the home win over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
However, he found some productivity to match his displays at Molineux. Dewsbury-Hall set up Iliman Ndiaye's goal in the first half and then scored himself. The midfielder latched on to a delicate pass from Jack Grealish to lash the ball high into the net.
Moyes heaped praise on the former Chelsea man after the game. “He brings us a little bit of poise,” he said. “He's a really nice footballer, he sees the game well, his vision's very good. But I always thought that if we could get him in the right positions he'd score enough goals. I do think he can score goals from midfield and it was a really good goal he scored today.”
The Scot was in little doubt Everton deserved to head home with three points but was frustrated with the defensive errors that twice allowed Wolves a route back into the game - one they had done little to deserve.
On the display, he said: “I thought we did really well today, I thought we played well. We gave away two goals that were very unlike us at Everton, to be honest, which gave Wolves a chance to get back in the game. I thought at 3-1 we were pretty comfortable and we gave up a really poor goal. We had to suffer a little bit in the last 10 minutes or so, but I thought for the majority of the game we did very well.”
Moyes accepted those mistakes could be the result of teething problems as a side that has relied on its defence across recent years attempts to offer more going forward. He added: “I didn't like the two goals that we lost. I thought they were very unlike us. So we'll do a bit of work and try and make sure it doesn't happen again.”
