Manchester City are open to parting ways with Tottenham Hotspur target Manuel Akanji
After having worked on this operation for several weeks, Tottenham Hotspur were finally able to land a new playmaker yesterday as they signed the Dutch forward Xavi Simons. With this new addition, Spurs now have a very complete squad that clearly has the potential to compete for all the big trophies this season, mainly the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
However, there are still some days left before the market closes, and the North London side is now looking to make some further additions to their team to reinforce some other areas.
One such area that Daniel Levy’s side is looking to strengthen is the defense. In this regard, the Lilywhites have been linked with several defenders, including the Manchester City center-back Manuel Akanji.
Some recent reports suggested that Tottenham are already in talks with the Citizens for the Swiss defender’s signing. Now, some new updates have come on this subject, which are quite encouraging for Spurs. As per a report from CaughtOffside, Manchester City are also open to allowing the defender’s sale, especially if they receive a convincing offer for him.

Manuel Akanji would be a good addition for Spurs
As things stand, the North London side has a set centre-back pairing of Cristian Romero and Mikey van de Ven, while players like Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic will provide useful cover. However, a player of Akanji’s experience would also come in quite handy for Thomas Frank.
This is especially the case as Romero and de Ven have suffered from physical issues in the past, and in case one of them is out for a prolonged time again this season, the Swiss defender can turn out to be another experienced option in the center of the backline.
Furthermore, Tottenham will be competing for both the Premier League and the UCL this season, and Akanji’s experience can prove to be highly valuable in both these competitions. For now, it remains to be seen whether Spurs will be able to complete this move before the transfer window closes.
