A roundup of some of the latest transfer headlines doing the rounds on the Premier League rumour mill.
The summer deadline is now in sight and Premier League clubs have very little time left to see any last minute deals over the line.
We’ve seen plenty of exciting deals unfold this transfer window but there are still plenty of reports doing the rounds and linking teams with additional signings and sales.
As we enter the twilight hours of the transfer window, we’ve rounded up some of the latest headlines within the Premier League.
Liverpool ‘will reject’ rivals’ attempt to include player in Marc Guehi deal
Liverpool are still looking to bring Marc Guehi to Anfield this summer before the transfer window slams shut in just a matter of days. The Reds have identified their backline as an area in need of improvement and Guehi is a target they have been linked with for months now.
The England international is now well into the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park and has shown no signs of wanting to sign a new deal. Steve Parish is now reportedly trying to push Guehi in the direction of Liverpool to avoid losing him for free next summer.
However, according to BBC Sport, Palace have also explored the prospect of signing Joe Gomez on loan as a sweetener in a deal for Guehi. The Eagles are seriously considering the idea of £30 million plus a Gomez loan in trade for Guehi, but this is something the Reds aren’t willing to entertain.
The report claims that Liverpool will ‘reject any formal offer’ from Palace for Gomez and have ‘no intention’ of letting him leave this month.
The 3AM Verdict: This approach makes sense from a Palace point of view but Liverpool are trying to strengthen their defence, not weaken it. Allowing a centre-back to leave in place of another defeats the point of signing a new one to improve their backline. Gomez brings a wealth of experience and seniority to the team and can also provide cover at right-back and left-back. Gomez is too valuable of a player to see leave without a replacement, even if it’s just on loan.
Chelsea ‘written proposal’ snubbed by Barcelona
Chelsea have reportedly sent a ‘written proposal’ to Barcelona in attempt to sign Fermin Lopez before the deadline. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who reported on Saturday that an initial offer of €40 million (£35m) had been submitted for the midfielder.
Just a matter of hours later Romano followed up with another update, reporting that Barcelona were not looking to sell Lopez this summer.
“Barcelona maintain their position: no plans to sell Fermin Lopez this summer following Chelsea bid. The only way for Fermin exit would be in case he decides to leave, with future now in player’s hands,” the transfer expert wrote on social media.
The 3AM Verdict: Fermin Lopez impressed last season with eight goals and ten assists in all competitions for Barcelona. However, he still hasn’t quite managed to establish himself as a nailed on starter for the club, which could result in him looking elsewhere for regular game time. If a move is indeed up to the player, it all boils down to whether he is happy with the role he plays at Barcelona or if Chelsea can offer him a regular place in the starting XI.
