Exclusive: Mark Clattenburg admits Wolves were 'unfortunate' in crucial VAR decision against…

Everton doubled their points tally on Saturday through their win on the road against Wolves.

David Moyes will be thrilled to enter the international break with his side boasting six points in the Premier League standings.

The 62-year-old will still be hard at work, with Everton looking for some late opportunities in the transfer market.

Fine tweaks may only be needed before Monday’s deadline after Everton were praised for their performance away to Wolves.

It was a much-improved showing from the Toffees, who Stephen Warnock said played with an ‘arrogance’ to their game.

Jack Grealish wowed once again for Everton, but the travelling fans were left biting their nails after Wolves netted a second late in the game.

Speaking to Everton News, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg admitted there may have been a major VAR error during the game.

In conversation with Everton News, Clattenburg has suggested Iliman Ndiaye was lucky not to concede a penalty in the second half, following an incident with Hugo Bueno.

“Hugo Bueno is unfortunate not to get a penalty kick for a clumsy challenge by Iliman Ndiaye,” Clattenburg told Everton News.

“Bueno controls the ball and pulls the ball back and Ndiaye trips him without touching the ball.”

New Everton signing Tyler Dibling cannot wait to play alongside Ndiaye, but the Senegal international certainly showed the better side to his game in attack on Saturday.

Wolves fans may now feel hard done by, with the game finishing with just one goal separating the two sides.

Everton will take any VAR calls they can get

After the loss at Elland Road, James Tarkowski slammed the penalty decision, which he said was actually given by the linesman.

Those at Everton will maintain that the penalty should not have been given, which ultimately cost them a point in Yorkshire.

The decision made against Wolves and Bueno may cause more controversy, but Everton will happily take the decision on the day.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Tim Sherwood also agreed with Clattenburg’s verdict.

“Hugo Bueno chopped it back, it is a good shout for a penalty – if it was given, it would not have been overturned,” he said.

Over the course of the season, Everton will see a number of decisions go for and against them, this may have been one that went in their favour.
