Leeds United fought out a deserved draw with Newcastle United that lacked goals but not grit.
That is now four points from a difficult opening three games, with two of the 10 matches against Champions League clubs out of the way.
The Whites are still lacking that final third bite and Daniel Farke has made it abundantly clear that he wants more attacking signings in the final two days of the transfer window. "Quality is crucial if we want to give ourselves the best possible chance [of survival],” he said.
“If not, we won't raise the white flag. But it will be difficult. Until the last hour of the window we have to try everything."
This is plain for all to see. Here are a handful of things some supporters may have missed during the evening.
Paraag Marathe’s welcome
Chairman Paraag Marathe and chief business officer Morrie Eisenberg were seen chatting pitch-side before kick off, in between the dugouts. They were by the tunnel and diverted their conversation to clap the Leeds players onto the field for the warm up before moving to the director’s box.
Marathe appeared on Sky Sports on the opening night to hint that transfer movement could happen in the final days of the window. Less than 48 hours now remain and Farke is still yet to acquire the extra offensive player he wants.
Marathe oversaw a boardroom restructure this summer, with Robbie Evans promoted to managing director and Adam Underwood stepping into the sporting director role. It could be a busy final stretch of the window for the pair.
Goalkeeper’s advice
One criticism of Lucas Perri in his first two games was his reluctance to come out and collect the ball from crosses. Leeds saw more headers away than caught balls in the opening couple of games.
Goalkeeping coach Ed Wootton was seen talking with Perri during the warm-up, gesturing to the corner flag. Perri then engaged in some catching practice with Wootton used as an opposing striker - the Brazilian was asked to shove his marker out of the way and collect.
Perri brought big cheers when he came to collect an inswining cross in the final half. Now, for his distribution with his feet...
Other bits spotted
A long-serving fan celebrated his birthday by watching his beloved Leeds yesterday and took a gift with him - a small 70th birthday balloon. If you look closely you can see it in the video above.
Anthony Elanga and Lukas Nmecha both shared a warm embrace before the game. Sean Longstaff shared a few more with opposition players given his former links to the Toon.
Daniel Farke was very animated on the sidelines and incensed at one stage over one decision. This is the Premier League, every single tackle, call, pass and shot matters - especially for a newly-promoted club.
The reception to Jack Harrison’s entry was mixed but mostly positive. When he went over to take a corner at the North End, he was given a warm round of applause by match-goers.
