David Ornstein drops Kobbie Mainoo update as Everton eye move for Manchester United midfielder

Everton are still looking to do business in the final day or so of the summer transfer window.

David Moyes has managed to get some real quality through the door at Finch Farm this month, with Jack Grealish already making a big impression.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has also made a great start to his Everton career and scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 win against Wolves yesterday.

With the transfer window set to slam shut on Monday at 7pm, time is running out to get another couple of players in, but David Ornstein has now dropped an intriguing update on the Toffees’ midfield target Kobbie Mainoo.

Kobbie Mainoo could leave Man United if a substantial permanent offer arrives

Everton News understand that Moyes is exploring a deal to sign Mainoo, with the Manchester United midfielder keen to depart Old Trafford due to limited game time.

It was then reported that Man United are intent on keeping Mainoo, however, David Ornstein has now left the door open somewhat for Everton and other interested parties as he believes a permanent offer could change that stance.

“Kobbie Mainoo wants to leave on loan,” Ornstein explained.

“Manchester United do not intend to sanction his departure. You never know if a whopping great big permanent transfer offer comes in…things happen in football.

“But they would need a replacement as well, so that’s extremely difficult. There are many clubs that would like to sign Kobbie Mainoo but United, at the moment, are saying he’s going nowhere.”

What Ruben Amorim has said about Everton target Kobbie Mainoo

Speaking ahead of United’s 3-2 win against Burnley on Saturday, Ruben Amorim said Mainoo needs to fight for his place.

“I want Kobbie to stay,” Amorim admitted.

“He needs to fight for his place, and we need Kobbie. So that is not going to change. The rest I don’t know how it’s going to finish.

“I understand that the players that are not playing in this moment are disappointed, but everyone has the same opportunity to play. You have to fight during the week.”
