Argentina's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has now got a chance to become a Manchester United starter this season, despite the Red Devils **[being linked with Belgium's Senne Lammens](https://www.theweek.in/news/sports/2025/08/22/football-senne-lammens-transfer-news-manchester-united-vs-city-battle-on-cards-for-royal-antwerp-goalkeeper.html)**, reports said.
With Altay Bayındır coming up with another sloppy show in front of the sticks on Saturday against Burnley, Manchester United are forced to approach both Lammens and "Dibu" Martinez, reports said. The 32-year-old Argentine, who bid an emotional farewell to Villa Park at the end of last campaign, is being considered as a backup plan if the ongoing talks with Royal Antwerp for the 23-year-old Lammens fail.
"Manchester United make a new approach with Aston Villa for Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez. Talks remain ongoing for Senne Lammens while Man United want to be ready if a deal collapses with less than 48h to go...and a new approach for Dibu took place with Villa + his camp," Fabrizio Romano said on X on Sunday.

He was linked to Barcelona and Saudi teams, but nothing seems to have materialised yet. On the other hand, Thibaut Courtois's rumoured successor Lammens, is all set to join Manchester United.
“Personal terms are almost agreed, and Man United are in active talks for the Belgian goalkeeper. MUFC try to anticipate more clubs from France and Italy, also based on exits,” Fabrizio Romano had earlier confirmed. As per FootballTransfers.com, the Belgium Under-21 star's value is estimated to be between €9.8 million and €12 million. As things stand, it was not immediately known how much money Dibu was going to cost United, if the deal goes through.
Martinez was said to be paid between £150,000 and £125,000 per week at Villa Park (without bonuses, image rights, or endorsements included). Unai Emery's team, who are wrestling with financial fair play regulations and were forced to let multiple players go ahead of the ongoing season's start.
