Jorgen Strand Larsen’s potential move to Newcastle United could be halted by the offer of a big-money new Wolves contract, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about Newcastle’s continued pursuit of Strand Larsen.
Newcastle have completed the signing of Nick Woltemade for a club-record £69million fee to finally end their search for a striker this summer, but Eddie Howe still wants to add more attacking reinforcements.
Alexander Isak‘s future is yet to be resolved as the transfer window enters its penultimate day, but the signing of Strand Larsen would allow Newcastle to progress his move to Liverpool for a British record fee.
Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Wolves plan to turn down any bids for Strand Larsen despite him asking to leave the club, and are now planning to open new contract talks with the Norwegian striker.
Strand Larsen missed Wolves’ 3-2 defeat by Everton on Saturday with a minor injury, but sources have told Football Insider that Vitor Pereira will look to tie his number nine down to a new deal as he agitates for a move away from Wolves.

Strand Larsen has been tipped to complete his move to Newcastle before the transfer deadline despite Wolves holding firm on their position, having already turned down two big-money bids from the Magpies.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke stated that after Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri‘s departures earlier this summer, Wolves are loathe to lose another star player in Strand Larsen.
“[Wolves] want to keep him”, he told Football Insider.
“They’re insisting he’s not for sale in this window and are planning to have contract talks with him over a new deal, to fend off this interest Newcastle and reward him for his progress.
“He’s agitating for a move, interested in moving to Newcastle if something could be agreed and the chance to play Champions League football, but Wolves are working hard to keep hold of him.
“They don’t want to lose another top player; they’ve lost two already this summer. They’re not planning to lose Jorgen Strand Larsen.”

Newcastle face transfer decision after Woltemade arrival
Woltemade was in the stands at Elland Road for Newcastle’s 0-0 draw with Leeds on Saturday, but Howe will hope that the German international is ready to go for their first match after the international break.
Isak, Woltemade and William Osula would give Newcastle three towering options up front, but Football Insider revealed on 28 August that Liverpool are confident they can sign Isak before the window closes.
The Swede’s highly-anticipated departure would open the door for another striker like Strand Larsen or Yoane Wissa to replace him, but it remains to be seen if Newcastle can finally weaken Wolves’ resolve.
