'Embarrassing'- Man United slammed by pundit after what he saw at full-time against Burnley

Manchester United left it extremely late to record their first Premier League win of the season against Burnley.

Ruben Amorim couldn’t watch Bruno Fernandes’ injury-time penalty at Old Trafford, but the Manchester United captain stepped up to score the final goal of a 3-2 win over Burnley.

Frankly, United made it hard for themselves and should have been out of sight by half-time. But in a week where Amorim was under huge pressure, the most important thing was the result.

Amorim ripped into his players after the Grimsby defeat, repeatedly saying they “spoke loudly” on the pitch. Against Burnley, his players made it equally clear that they are fully behind the Portuguese coach.

It was far more stressful than it needed to be for the Red Devils, and the outpour of relief at the end of the match was clear for all to see.

Man United’s celebrations vs Burnley labelled ’embarrassing’

United came within minutes of dropping points for a third successive match in the Premier League, before Fernandes stepped up to score the winner.

Failing to win would have attracted huge criticism throughout the international break, so it was more important than ever to pick up three points. The celebrations at full-time showed just how badly the players wanted to win.

However, pundit Jay Bothroyd decided to label United’s celebrations as “embarrassing” on Sky Sports.

“That was embarrassing for me. I have to be honest, that was embarrassing. Why are you celebrating after a 3-2 win over Burnley, no disrespect to Burnley,” Bothroyd said.

“It looks like they’ve won the World Cup or some type of trophy. If I see that and I didn’t know where we were in the season, you’d think they’ve just won the league.”

Man United players deserve to celebrate

There’s no denying that it has been a poor start to the season for United, and with that comes a huge media spotlight.

Amorim and his players have been under intense scrutiny, and the pressure to perform against Burnley was huge with the manager’s future potentially at stake.

The performance that followed was worthy of a dominant win, but instead, United were made to fight tooth and nail until the final moments of the match. That is worthy of celebration, regardless of the result.

Up next for United are brutal back-to-back Premier League fixtures against Manchester City and Chelsea. It was crucial to head into the break with three points in the bag and confidence levels on the up.
