Yoane Wissa releases statement as Brentford star explains all amid Newcastle United transfer saga

Yoane Wissa has released a statement explaining his side of the story amid the Newcastle United transfer saga.

Wissa has expressed his desire to leave Brentford all summer, with the forward seemingly Newcastle-bound. However, so far nothing has materialised.

Wissa has refused to train, and it now looks increasingly likely he’ll never play for the Bees again.

This situation is only accentuated as the striker releases a lengthy statement on the Brentford and Newcastle saga, which goes on even longer.

Yoane Wissa releases statement amid Newcastle interest

Wissa has come out and clearly stated his desire to leave Brentford, whilst also explaining the transfer saga in more detail.

“Over the past few weeks, there has been increased speculation about my future at Brentford. With the transfer window closing in a matter of hours, I feel compelled to be open and honest about my situation.

“I want to make it clear that I wish to leave Brentford. Despite fair offers being made this summer, I believe the club are now standing in my way. This is frustrating given the assurances I received earlier in the window.

“Since signing in 2021, I have always given everything for the club. I am proud of what we have achieved together, and it has been a privilege to represent Brentford across 149 games and 49 goals. I will always be grateful to the fans, who hold a special place in my heart.

“Earlier this summer, I met with senior management and the new head coach, making clear my desire to seek a new challenge. During those discussions, I was told – verbally and in writing – that I would be allowed to leave if a reasonable offer was received.

“Acting on that understanding, I explored opportunities with full transparency and informed the club at every stage. When a formal offer came in from another Premier League club, I expressed my wish to join. I believed we had a mutual agreement to part ways.

“However, Brentford have now changed their position, which goes against what was previously communicated. This has left me in a difficult and disappointing situation. I want to stress that I have acted professionally throughout and have always respected the club.

“I remain hopeful a fair resolution can still be reached before the window closes. For my career and my family, I believe it is right that Brentford honour their promise and allow me to move on for a fair price.

“I want to thank the supporters again for their backing. This has never been about walking away from Brentford, but about being allowed to take the next step with the club’s blessing. To stay beyond this summer would only tarnish four wonderful years here, and I ask the owners and directors to now keep their word and allow me to leave.”

Brentford surely must let Yoane Wissa leave

The situation is a ridiculous one, and it is becoming increasingly common in the modern era of football transfers.

Wissa has made his intentions clear to the club, and now, despite everything, the club simply have to cash in.

Wissa has evidently been alerted by Newcastle’s signing of Nick Woltemade and their pursuit of Jørgen Strand Larsen, which may mean they no longer need another goal-getter.

Wissa will be one to watch on deadline day – will he get the move he so desperately craves?
