'Downgrade' - Celtic hero Chris Sutton superbly shuts down ridiculous Brendan Rodgers & Man…

Chris Sutton is not one to mince his words when it comes to talking about Celtic.

Sutton tells it exactly how it is whether the team are playing well or not and that is why his opinion is respected amongst the vast majority of Celtic supporters.

Right now, Celtic are enjoying a decent start to the domestic campaign with a 100% win record and no goals conceded.

On the European front, Champions League disappointment is replaced by Europa League hope as Celtic prepare for a new season in a competition they haven’t participated in since 2021.

And whilst the fallout of the Champions League exit continues, Sutton shot down a ludicrous suggestion about Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and Manchester United.

Chris Sutton throws out laughable suggestion Rodgers could leave Celtic for Man United

Now, one man who is really under pressure is Man United boss, Ruben Amorim. A cup exit to Grimsby Town was followed up by a dramatic late 3-2 win against Burnley at Old Trafford this week.

A 97th-minute penalty secured another bumpy win and it seems that the recent performance of Amorim’s side is the last straw for one United fan.

This Manchester United fan said on BBC 606 [13m], “So two questions, guys. Ruben Amorim, is he up to the job? And what did you think of how he was behaving midweek?

“And the second question to you both is, why is nobody speaking about Brendan Rodgers?

Sutton replied, “What do you mean? What do you mean by that? You think Brendan would walk away from Celtic to go to Manchester United?

Fan: “Well, when you say walk away from Celtic, Chris, Chris, he’s under pressure there, isn’t he? He’s made noises about, you know, the team or what he wants to be.

Sutton: “What do you mean under pressure?”

Fan: “He’s made noises about the team is not exactly what he wants it to be. You know, we’ve got to think about what we want to do as a club. I think he’s a brilliant manager.”

Sutton: “He’s going to stay to the end of the season. Even if Manchester United had offered him the job, he’ll stay to the end of the season.

“He couldn’t walk away after what happened last time. He just couldn’t. Well, absolutely. He couldn’t, he wouldn’t.

“He said he’s staying to the end of the season and probably wouldn’t want to downgrade and go to Manchester United.”

Outside of Tottenham, the Man United job is probably the closest to a poisoned chalice any manager could take right now.

What Brendan Rodgers has recently said about his Celtic future

Rodgers will stay at Celtic until the end of the season. The Celtic boss has been crystal clear about that on a number of occasions.

Rodgers said at the start of the season, “What I can say without any avoidance of doubt: I will be here next year, 200%.”

Any talk of him walking away from Celtic will be media nonsense or, in this case, a desperate fan looking for a fix to his club’s troubled season with a manager of Rodgers’ calibre.

This Man United supporter should focus his pain away from Celtic and look at how he can help his current manager improve a team that cost hundreds of millions of pounds to struggle in the Premier League.
