Real Madrid star left dismayed after VAR cancelled his goals against Mallorca

After Real Madrid’s latest triumph at the Santiago Bernabeu against Mallorca, club president Florentino Perez once again made his way to the dressing room, a ritual he never fails to keep.

The atmosphere was lively, with players and staff satisfied after a tough but deserved win.

Despite the referee ruling out three goals in controversial fashion, Madrid’s dominance was clear, and the sense inside the squad was that the margin of victory could easily have been greater.

Florentino, however, had more than just words of congratulations. He singled out Álvaro Carreras for praise, describing the defender’s contribution as decisive.

Speaking to Xabi Alonso after the final whistle, he made a special mention of the left-back, stating, “He’s very good, he saved the game for us with that play under the line,” he said as quoted by Defensa Central.

Alonso shares that view. Since the beginning of the season, Carreras has been one of the most reliable figures in the team, proving he is ready to handle the pressure of big matches.

Carreras’ rise has naturally cast shadows on Fran Garcia’s position. Garcia, who had put in solid performances during the World Cup period, has seen opportunities limited.

While his energy is valued, he has not been able to offer the same technical qualities Carreras brings to the side.

The former Benfica player is calm on the ball, strong in the air, and links up well with teammates in attacking phases.

This ability to combine and progress play has been a perfect fit for Alonso’s style, which demands control and fluidity in possession.

The optimism around Real Madrid is evident. The team is buying into Alonso’s vision, moving the ball with greater rhythm, and showing more authority in matches.

Opponents are already struggling to keep up, and inside the Bernabeu, there is a belief that this side will only get stronger as the season progresses.
