Manchester United are continuing talks in an attempt to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

Lammens has been left out of successive Royal Antwerp squads and discussions with United continue. The goalkeeper has not agreed personal terms, but it's hoped a breakthrough can be reached.

Galatasaray have been linked with a move for the Belgian shot-stopper ahead of the deadline.

United admire Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who could be a potential alternative to Lammens, but the Argentina international earns £200,000 per week at Villa Park.

United did not budget for the signing of a first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the window.

Ruben Amorim has watched Altay Bayindir make mistakes against Arsenal and Burnley in the Premier League. Andre Onana was recalled against Grimsby and made an error for their second goal.

Speaking after the 3-2 win against Burnley, Amorim defended his 'keepers, insisting it's hard to be a goalkeeper in this current United side. "Guys, they are humans," said Amorim.

"Manchester United, everything is in use. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper. And you can see, I can change the goalkeeper in the situations that happen.

"We are in that moment. I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment. But if you look at the first goal, we can defend it better. We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham, because we don't do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.

"All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper. So, the players are struggling a little bit with all the things around the club. That is normal. So it's not just the goalkeepers. I think everybody has to improve."

Lammens, 23, is a young goalkeeper who could challenge for the No.1 spot. He stands at 6ft 3in, represents Belgium Under-21s and is seen as a goalkeeper with a bright future.

Royal Antwerp are keen to cash in and have left Lammens out of matchday squads to prevent an injury.
