With just a matter of hours of the summer transfer window remaining, there is still a lot of talk around a possible late move by Liverpool for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. It has been claimed that there is a confidence that a deal could be done.
However, it now seems that there could be another hurdle to overcome with Newcastle United being handed a blow in bringing in a possible replacement. It’s been reported by the BBC that for Isak to be able to move to Liverpool, the Magpies will need to sign two strikers.
One of those has arrived with Nick Woltemade completing a transfer from Stuttgart on Saturday. Newcastle, however, continue to work on a second striker. One of their main targets is Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen.
The club have seen two bids turned down by the midlands side so far, with the second worth around £55 million. Amid the speculation over his future, Strand Larsen was left out of the Wolves squad for the Premier League clash against Everton and watched from the stands as his side fell to a 3-2 defeat.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira delivered a blow to Newcastle’s hopes of signing the striker in the final two days. When asked if Strand Larsen would be staying at the club, he said: "I hope so. He is an important player.
"Today, if he plays, his quality could give us something else. We are not in a situation to sell our best players.
"The information I have is that he will stay with us."
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, he added that his team "need to bring more players, not to sell players".
The latest update means that Newcastle may now have to turn their attention elsewhere for a striker signing. Any deal they do could potentially unlock a move for Isak to move to Liverpool.
The Reds had a £110 million bid turned down for the striker earlier this summer. The Sweden international is pushing hard for the move, and is currently training away from the Newcastle first team squad.

Transfer deadline day is almost upon us and Liverpool still have business to do. It's already been a busy summer for the Premier League champions but they could still pull off a couple of blockbuster signings as the window comes to a close.
Alexander Isak's future remains unresolved, with the striker refusing to play or train for Newcastle United. Liverpool remain interested in a deal for the Swede.
Meanwhile, Marc Guehi has been a player of interest all summer and Liverpool could still launch a last-minute deal for the Crystal Palace defender.
