Matheus Cunha takes drastic action after Man Utd star is filmed leaving Old Trafford with injury

Manchester United face a nervous wait over Matheus Cunha following his injury against Burnley in the Premier League, with the club's latest decision involving the forward raising fresh concerns.

Cunha, 26, is still in the process of settling in at Old Trafford after joining United in a £62.5m move from Wolves in June - a transfer he described at the time as a "dream".

But he has found his first few months at the club difficult, with Ruben Amorim's side continuing to struggle.

Cunha has failed to score in his first four matches for United and was forced off in Saturday's dramatic 3-2 win over Burnley.

The Brazilian pulled up during the first half with a suspected hamstring injury, heading straight down the tunnel.

United eventually claimed a much-needed win, with captain Bruno Fernandes scoring a stoppage-time winner to ease some of the pressure on Amorim.

Speaking after the match, Amorim admitted he was concerned about both Cunha and Mason Mount, who himself was taken off at half-time through injury.

"It was hard to lose Cunha and Mason Mount, because Mason Mount played 30 minutes with an injury," Amorim told Sky Sports.

"I'm concerned about that, because they are so important for us. We will see."

"I don't know [how they are], I don't know. We will check them," he added in his post-match press conference when asked about the severity of the pair's injuries.

"We need those guys really bad to be really competitive."

Cunha was later spotted leaving Old Trafford without the need of crutches, raising hopes that his injury was less serious than originally feared.

However, a decision has been made for Cunha to withdraw from the Brazil squad for the upcoming international break - raising concerns.

Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti had included both Cunha and Casemiro in his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.

But Cunha has now pulled out of the squad following discussions between United and the Brazilian national team's medical staff.

"After a conversation between the medical departments of Manchester United and the National Team, attacker Mateus Cunha was released from the call-up due to the muscle injury suffered in the match against Burnley, in the Premier League," read a statement released on X by Brazil.

Cunha is set to be replaced by Flamengo's Samuel Lino, while Mount will also have a period of rest after being left out of Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad.

United next face bitter rivals Manchester City at the Etihad on September 14 before facing Chelsea the following weekend in a tough run of Premier League fixtures after the international break.
