Crystal Palace face a battle to keep hold of the player before the end of the transfer window

Crystal Palace are back in Premier League action on Sunday night. They face a home clash against Aston Villa as they look to pick up their first league win of the new season. The Eagles have drawn their first two fixtures against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

Oliver Glasner’s side have the chance to bring in some new faces before the deadline. They have until Monday at 7pm to complete any final deals. The South London outfit also have the opportunity to sell some players if needed.

Crystal Palace update regarding Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace will reach an agreement with Liverpool to sell Marc Guehi, says Fabrizio Romano. The centre-back is poised to secure a move to Anfield with a contract ‘ready’ for him. His deal with the Eagles expires in June 2026.

In this latest update regarding his situation, reporter Romano has said on YouTube: “The bid is there for Marc Guehi, £35m plus 10 per cent sell-on clause. It’s not a problem to reach an agreement with Palace. From what I’m hearing, Liverpool and Palace will reach an agreement for Guehi. Club to club is not a problem and player’s side is not a problem, he agreed on terms. Don’t trust the reports saying that he didn’t. The contract is ready, the player is ready to travel and sign.”

Crystal Palace risk losing Guehi for free next year if they don’t sell him now or in January. He moved to Selhurst Park back in 2022 and has since become one of their most prized assets. The England international rose up through the academy ranks at Chelsea before he was loaned out twice to Swansea City in the Championship to get some experience under his belt.

What now for Crystal Palace?

Losing Guehi will be a huge blow for Crystal Palace. However, it has been on the cards for a while so won’t be a great surprise. They have to ensure that they secure a replacement for him.

The Eagles will be hoping to get a result against Aston Villa in their upcoming clash to kick-start their campaign. Speaking ahead of the match, Glasner has said: “We always focus on the actual situation. It's the same manager, it's more or less the same team, so it will be the same structure of how they are playing. So straight after the press conference, I will sit with my analysts and then we will watch Aston Villa.

“But I don't expect something completely new, because Unai Emery is so successful and doing such a great job, not just at Villa, also in his former clubs, that he will stick to his principles. We expect him playing more or less the same style. The players are the same, and I think we will trust what we did against them.”

He added: “But again, it's not just what we did, it's always how we do it. The intensity, the desire, the awareness, because it's pretty clear what they want to do – and if you are a little bit late, they punish you. They have their traps, and when you are late, they create space in their pockets. And then they have such great runners in behind, intelligent players moving in the pocket.”
