Newcastle United hope that injuries to Sven Botman and Jacob Ramsey are not as bad as first feared.

The Dutch defender was subbed in the [second half of the 0-0 draw at Elland Road last night](http:// second half of the 0-0 draw at Elland Road last night) while Ramsey, making his first start, came off at the break following a whack.

For the second game running, Newcastle suffered a mini spate of injuries but Eddie Howe will be philosophical about the two setbacks.

On Ramsey, Howe said the decision to replace him was precautionary and when asked about Ramsey's knock said: "Yeah, his ankle swelled up at half-time, so he decided not to take any risks."

Speaking on Botman, who had his foot stamped on by Lukas Nmecha, Howe said: "I don't think that is an injury.

"It was the stage of the game, and with the new protocols, when players go down injured, they are off for longer periods than they have ever been.

"It was a good chance for us to change the system and try to win the game, that was why we made the change."

Howe must continue being careful with Botman after the 25-year-old suffered a spate of knee problems last term.

The other big positive for Howe was that Sandro Tonali got through the game unscathed after a shoulder injury suffered in the Liverpool game.

And by the time the squad get back together after the international fixtures, Howe will also have Joelinton, who went off with a groin injury against the Reds last Monday, back in training and in contention to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.

United will also have Nick Woltemade available to them for the Wolves game after the £69m star's move from Stuttgart was completed on Saturday.
