Under-pressure Sheffield United manager Ruben Selles has issued an assessment on the future of star player Gustavo Hamer that has left the door open for a potential exit for the player. Hamer has long been linked with a move to Leeds United, with the Whites having made a move for the attacking player last summer.
Leeds are in need of a number 10, a role Hamer has been a major hit in for the Blades, both in the Premier League and the Championship. Leeds' interest appears to have cooled in recent weeks, but the door for a potential exit has been left open nonetheless.
Selles, who is under pressure after starting the season with four defeats in the league, admitted he couldn't offer any guarantees Hamer would remain at Bramall Lane beyond Monday night's transfer deadline.
Asked directly if Hamer would remain a Blade, Selles said: "Well, I don't know. Gustavo has been trying to give absolutely all of himself for Sheffield United since he arrived two years ago.
“And then now I think he's trying to be that person, that type, to take responsibility. And hopefully it's for much longer.
As far as I know, there is nothing there. But as I always told you, I can’t predict the future. I don't know what's going to happen in the next 48 hours.”
Leeds are not thought to be in discussions to bring Hamer to the club, but he would no doubt remain an option if other targets cannot be signed.
