Former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is on the verge of securing a shock Premier League return in the coming hours.
According to journalist Charlotte Duncker, Lindelof is set to have his “medical soon” with the Midlands outfit.
He is expected to sign a two-year deal with his new club.
Lindelof departed Old Trafford in July upon the expiry of his contract, leaving alongside fellow veterans Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans.
The Sweden international spent eight years at Old Trafford, making 284 appearances and winning the Carabao Cup (2023) and the FA Cup (2024).
He made 25 appearances across all competitions last season and played a vital role in the absence of Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire.
Villa head coach Unai Emery wanted defensive reinforcements before the closure of the window and his request now looks near completion.
Lindelof will be a fine addition to the Villans, given his extensive Premier League experience.
He will now compete with Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa for a place in Emery’s starting XI.
It is a surprise to see the 31-year-old potentially securing a move to Villa as many expected him to move abroad.
There were rumours of him returning to Portugal, where he first rose to prominence before making the switch to Old Trafford.
Though he never fully cemented himself as an undisputed starter at United, Lindelof carved out a valuable role as a dependable squad player.
He stepped up in the absence of key players and was one of more composed ball progressors at the club.
There is no love lost between Lindelof and United, and he should be given a warm round of applause when Villa face United at Old Trafford.
