'Here we go'- Fabrizio Romano confirms ex-Man Utd star is now joining a direct Premier League rival

One Manchester United player released during Ruben Amorim’s tenure is about to confirm a return to the Premier League.

After a 15th-place Premier League finish last season, it was important for Ruben Amorim and Ineos to overhaul the Manchester United squad.

Around £197 million has been spent on four new signings, while several players have been either sold or loaned out. Others were released in the summer once their contracts ended.

United released nine players this summer, and many are still yet to find a new club despite the 2025/26 season being well underway.

One of those players is former United defender Victor Lindelof, but a Premier League move is now on the brink of being completed.

Victor Lindelof contract deal gets ‘Here we go’

During his search for a new club, Lindelof was training with Vasteras SK – his boyhood club in Sweden.

Reports linked Lindelof to Fiorentina, where he would have been reunited with former United teammate David de Gea. Other reports suggested Bayer Leverkusen were interested in Lindelof.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Lindelof is set to join Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

Romano revealed that Lindelof is currently undergoing a medical at Villa before signing a two-year deal with Unai Emery’s side.

Lindelof received a higher proposal from Villa compared to other interested clubs such as Fiorentina and Everton. The 31-year-old centre-back, who spent eight years at United, is now set to join a club competing with the Red Devils for a European qualification spot.

When Victor Lindelof will face Man United in Premier League

Unlike many others who have left Old Trafford this summer, Lindelof left on good terms and is still admired by the United fanbase for his time in Manchester.

The Sweden international can now look forward to facing the Red Devils in the Premier League, but he has a long wait until he returns to Old Trafford.
