If today’s reports are true, I can’t help but feel disappointed. At the end of last season, when Emi left the pitch in tears after our final home game, I had made my peace with the idea that he might be moving on. That moment felt like closure.
But to let things drag on until now, only for news to break that he’s agreed personal terms with Manchester United, leaves a very sour taste. It’s not the leaving itself, I respect what Emi has done for us, but the timing and manner of it all. This late in the window, it feels like a low blow to the gut.
Whatever happens, Emi will always be part of Villa history, but this episode, if true, has tarnished the goodbye I thought we’d already had. UTV
