Scott Parker proud of his team despite the narrow loss

Following on from two victories against Sunderland and Derby County, in the Premier League and Carabao Cup respectively. Scott Parker and his team went into the match at Old Trafford full of confidence of achieving another win.

Man United landed a late winning penalty to walk away from Old Trafford with all three points and leaving Burnley to feel dejected as their valiant effort led to nothing as they left Manchester empty handed.

"I've got two riding emotions at the moment. One which is I'm gutted for the players and for our fans. I'm gutted for all of us really with how the game ends up."

"But then on the flip side I'm immensely proud of the group. I'm proud of our fans in terms of coming here. The support they gave this team was immense really. I'm proud of our second half performance. After that first half where we struggled and I think it's fair to say we were fortunate to come in at one goal down"

Parker has never been shy of honesty when it comes to himself and his teams performance. But he also isn't shy to show disappointment at decisions that are contentious and up for debate whether the correct decision was made.

The pride he has in his team is evident as he instils them to go out every week and fight with one hundred per cent effort. Which is what he got from his team at Old Trafford despite the disappointing loss at the death of the game.

To go and lose the game on a VAR call was disappointing

The Burnley manager made it clear that he wasn't happy with the game being decided in the last minutes of the game by an official 100 miles away from the stadium.

"Obviously to go and lose the game on a VAR call that's being called from a guy 100 miles away is bitterly disappointing really."

Still feeling dejected about the decision that was made Parker remained respectful towards officials whilst still showing his disappointment about the path the sport is heading down.

"The game has become sterile. We're probably not too far away from not celebrating goals. It feels like there's a checklist or you've got to go back four phases because he might've been offside. Did he stand on his foot two minutes before it?"

Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka had an excellent game particularly during the first 45 minutes as he kept his side in the game. Keeping the score line respectable getting his team to the half time interval just one goal down to the hosts Manchester United.

"Martin was massive. He needed to be. It was difficult for us first half. We was under immense pressure and we needed Martin to stand big and he did and got us in at half time only being one nil."

Lyle Foster also had himself a fantastic game as he grew into the flow of the match and put his foothold on the game in the second 45 minutes. As he scored and had a second goal ruled out for offside.

"He (Lyle Foster) had one at the weekend. Could argue was or wasn't it a foul. And then one today which I think is offside by literally a nose hair. Pleased that he got off the mark. It was a lovely finish from Lyle."

"I think we mentioned it early on in my press conference in the week. I've been really excited and really encouraged by Lyle. He's in a great place and he's been pivotal in the first three games."

Full of praise for his striker as he finally gets the goal his performances have been deserving. Especially after having a goal against Sunderland ruled out due to a contentious decision made again by the match officials.

Parker encouraged from what he saw

"I've been in the arena. I know how difficult it is. We found that out in the first half and at times it can overwhelming. Certainly for a young group we rolled our socks up and showed our quality, got right back into this game. The fine margins and the way the games gone has been decided on a decision which made us lose the game. But I'm encouraged by it."

The loss not clouding his judgement on the overall performance from his team as he shows pride in how his team played and gained encouragement that his players can fight for survival in what will be a long season ahead of them.
