Alejandro Garnacho called out for 'lying' during first Chelsea interview

Alejandro Garnacho has been called out by rival fans for supposedly "lying" in his first ever interview at Chelsea.

Garnacho, 21, has finally got his move to Stamford Bridge after being frozen out at Manchester United by head coach Ruben Amorim.

The Argentina international was banished to the so-called 'Bomb Squad' along with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Antony, after being omitted from United's squad for their pre-season tour of the United States.

After previously being linked with Garnacho in January, Chelsea finally got their man on Saturday – signing the winger in a £40m deal, which included a 10 per cent sell-on clause for United.

Garnacho was in attendance for Chelsea' 2-0 win over local rivals Fulham on Saturday but risked angering his new club just minutes into his first appearance at Stamford Bridge, after he was spotted scrolling through his phone early in the match.

Chelsea released Garnacho's first interview at the club on Sunday morning, during which he said it was an "incredible feeling" to sign for the Blues.

"I think it's a bigger step," said Garnacho.

"The situation of the club, it's a good step for me and my career and hopefully it's going to go well for me."

While that could be viewed as a subtle dig at United, it was another comment made by Garnacho that most caught the eye of rival supporters.

Later in the interview, Garnacho claimed to support Chelsea "a bit" as a youngster because of Eden Hazard.

"I used to watch the Premier League when I was young," said Garnacho, after being shown images of him wearing Chelsea's kit when he was younger.

"Obviously Chelsea because I like Eden Hazard. That's why I support Chelsea, a bit."

Rival fans were quick to mock Garnacho's claim that he supported the Blues, despite the images of him wearing their kit.

"A bit? You liar," posted one fan on X.

Another added: "Obviously he's reading a script."

A third wrote: "Support Chelsea a bit? He's taking the p***."

While a Chelsea fan joked: "Lol everyone is a fan when we sign them."

Garnacho will be hoping to make a strong start at Chelsea and could get his opportunity to impress in another west London derby, with Enzo Maresca's side next facing Brentford on September 13.

They will then take on Bayern Munich, who were also linked with Garnacho this summer, in the Champions League on September 17 before facing his former club United at Old Trafford on September 20.
