'Let's see': Former Newcastle United star offers his services to Premier League side before…

A former Newcastle United fan favourite has told a Premier League side he is available to play for them during a recent interview.

With just over 24 hours to go until the transfer window slams shut, there is still a lot of work to be done throughout the Premier League.

Newcastle United are no exception to that, even though they have made five senior signings already. Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle want a second striker following Nick Woltemade’s arrival on Tyneside. Alexander Isak’s future is still unknown, with the Sweden international still trying to force a move away from Newcastle after claims of broken promises.

Additionally, another central midfielder could arrive at Newcastle if there is scope for one. Reports stated that Newcastle enquired about Davide Frattesi of Inter Milan with a potential loan move in the offing.

In the meantime, several other Premier League clubs are working on deals, including Manchester United, who want a goalkeeper before the window closes. They may have found their man after a former Newcastle shot-stopper offered his services.

Tim Krul offers to join Man United to help solve goalkeeper issues

The Red Devils have had their fair share of goalkeeping problems in recent years. Andre Onana has shown very little to prove he was worth buying, and Altay Bayindir has also struggled to impress when given the chance.

At one point, Man United even had Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle, who helped them win the Carabao Cup in 2023.

Man United are now looking to sign another goalkeeper before the deadline, and former Newcastle man Tim Krul has surprisingly offered his services to Ruben Amorim.

“I’m on a free, mate,” he told Craig Slater during pre-race coverage on Sky Sports.

“At the end of the day, it’s a heavy shirt, especially Man United. To play in the Theatre of Dreams is obviously a big pressure. So yeah, let’s see what the next 24 hours brings.”

It is worth noting that Man United have now agreed personal terms with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, so Krul may not end up getting the move.

Tim Krul would be of use to Newcastle United this season

Now 37, Krul is a free agent following his release from Luton Town earlier this year. It remains to be seen whether he finds a new club before the transfer deadline or if he will remain a free agent going into September.

While a move seems unlikely, Krul going to Newcastle would be a deal that makes sense for them.

The Magpies are back in the Champions League this season but will struggle with squad registration due to a lack of ‘club-trained’ players. Krul fits the bill in that regard, as he is a graduate from Newcastle’s academy.

Reports earlier in the summer stated that Newcastle were looking at signing Krul, as well as former Toon shot-stoppers Fraser Forster and Jak Alnwick, but nothing ever came from it.

Newcastle appear prepared to go into the Champions League season without many club-trained players, prioritising quality new signings and selling longstanding players over them.
