'Outstanding': Leeds United told they've gazumped all of their Premier League rivals with £15m deal

Four points from three Premier League games against Everton, Arsenal and Newcastle has left Leeds United fans happy and content, going into the September break.

That could easily change in the next 36 hours, however, if Leeds fail to make any signings. Daniel Farke has publicly urged the club to make one or two additions in attack before the end of the transfer window.

One goal in those three Premier League matches, and two in all four games, including the cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, is cause for concern. Farke wants more attacking options before Monday’s deadline.

But the 10 signings that have been made have improved Leeds. On Saturday, five of the 10 started in the 0-0 draw against Newcastle with both Lukas Nmecha and Sean Longstaff given their first league starts.

Danny Murphy says Leeds have one of the bargains of the season

There were many good performances. Gabriel Gudmundsson’s form at left-back is going under the radar, especially at just £10m. The Swede went off injured and that will be a worry for Farke and Leeds fans.

Lucas Perri has two clean sheets in three, even if Jamie Carragher is concerned. Nmecha did his job but it was Longstaff who stole the plaudits yesterday, winning the man of the match award against his old side.

On Match of the Day, Danny Murphy said he thinks Leeds have got themselves one of the best deals of the entire window with the signing of Longstaff. Leeds have paid an initial £12m, rising to a total of £15m.

“Longstaff is going to be one of the bargains of the season. I think it was £12m, rising to £15m. Newcastle fans showed their appreciation, he was terrific there and deserved all of his plaudits,” Murphy analysed.

“I thought he was outstanding today. Bruno [Guimaraes] will know he’s been in a battle when he wakes up in the morning,” the former Liverpool, Fulham and Tottenham man added when discussing Longstaff.

Which Leeds United signing is the best addition this summer?

Longstaff was excellent on Saturday but arguably, it was his only good performance since arriving from Newcastle. Maybe, spurred on by the Leeds crowd but also the away support and his old teammates.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has the potential to be a wonderful signing, if the England international can get back to his previous form. Nmecha has shown he is a wily, experienced player, even tricking referees.

But as things stand, in terms of value for money, it is hard to look past Gudmundsson who at £10m, has been sensational. He has fitted in like a glove at left-back and looks a major improvement on Junior Firpo.
