'It was announced': Liverpool fans heard delivering 'big cheers' for former player at Anfield today

Liverpool have got their own things to focus on in the Premier League, but that doesn’t mean that their fans will forget about their former players.

The Reds are one of the most likely teams to come away with the top-flight title this term, but if they continue playing like they have over their last few games, it’s hard to see how they’ll be challenging by the end of the season.

Indeed, the score in their game against Arsenal is 0-0 at half-time, with the clash being fairly end-to-end with both Mikel Arteta and Arne Slot’s men having their fair share of chances.

However, one player who still lives in the memories of the Reds’ fan base is James Milner, with the now 39-year-old still playing for Brighton.

Liverpool fans all cheered when it was announced that James Milner scored for Brighton

If Milner manages to play another 15 Premier League games this season, he’ll have made the most top-flight appearances out of any player in history.

It feels like he never ages, and while he may not be able to play all 38 games anymore, when called upon, he’s always put in the most effort out of everyone on the pitch.

And, in Brighton’s 2-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday, the Englishman bagged his first Premier League goal of the season, with Liverpool’s fans showing plenty of love for one of their former players.

“Big cheers from the Liverpool supporters here at Anfield when it was announced that former star James Milner got his name on the scoresheet as Brighton beat Manchester City,” Phil McNulty said in quotes relayed by BBC Sport.

Liverpool need to step up their game against Arsenal

If Liverpool want to prove that they’re the team to beat this season, they need to turn their performance levels up a notch or two.

Ever since their Community Shield defeat against Crystal Palace, it’s been hard to see the style of play that Arne Slot is going for this season.

Granted, that likely has a lot to do with the number of players that have been brought in, but as we’re now three games into the Premier League season, you’d have expected to see some more improvement.

Of course, the Reds’ first games of the season have been difficult match-ups with Slot’s men facing the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle, but, since they’ve spent over £250million this summer, you’d expect them to be cruising towards victories.

Of course, it’s still early days, but if Liverpool don’t manage to earn all three points against Arteta’s men on Sunday, it could come back to bite them later in the campaign.
