Former Knicks fan favorite announces retirement on Saturday

Former New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin officially announced his retirement on Saturday, per a [post made on Instagram by Lin](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DN_5wpSEkxE/?igsh=MWM2NHZtZHA4YWUxOQ==).

“As athletes, we are always aware that the possibility of retirement is never far away,” Lin said on Instagram. “I've spent my 15 year career knowing that one day I would have to walk away, and yet actually saying goodbye to basketball today has been the hardest decision l've ever made.”

“I've lived out my wildest childhood dreams to play in front of fans all around the world. I will forever be the kid who felt fully alive everytime I touched a basketball,” Lin added.

2012 ‘Linsanity’ run sparked Lin’s NBA career

Lin is perhaps most known for his tenure with the Knicks during the 2011-12 season, otherwise dubbed “Linsanity.” In February of 2012, Lin took the basketball world by storm with one of the most unforeseen hot streaks a player has ever experienced. In 14 games that month, Lin averaged 20.9 points, and 8.4 assists per game while leading the Knicks to a 10-4 record in that span. “Linsanity” peaked when Lin drilled a game-winning three against the Toronto Raptors to secure a 90-87 victory on Feb. 14th, 2012.

Lin hasn’t played in the NBA since 2019, but now officially calls an end to his basketball career.

Lin also spent time with the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors, but he’ll forever be known for his short stint with the Knicks. His basketball career may be over, but Linsanity will live on forever in the minds of many basketball fans.
