Manchester United are hoping to complete a deal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez before the transfer deadline

Now Martinez is completely out of Villa’s squad for their clash with Palace on Sunday night. Martinez missed the first game of the campaign due to a red card suspension but was back in the starting line-up for a 1-0 loss to Brentford last weekend.

United have had issues with their goalkeeping position since the start of the campaign. Altay Bayındır has started all three Premier League games this term but has been guilty of errors leading to goals.

Andre Onana was given the nod against Grimsby Town but concerns were raised over his performance as United were dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the second round by the League Two outfit.

But if you look at the first goal, we can defend it better. We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham, because we don't do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.

"All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper. So, the players are struggling a little bit with all the things around the club. That is normal. So it's not just the goalkeepers. I think everybody has to improve."
