**Norwich City are in talks with Manchester United over the permanent signing of midfielder Zachary Baumann.**
The clubs are working on an agreement for the teenager to move to Carrow Road where he would form part of their development squad initially, as initially reported by the [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-talks-over-permanent-32384866) on Sunday.
City are hopeful of completing a move before Monday night's transfer deadline, with the window closing at 7pm. Baumann would follow the likes of Botan Ameen and Glenn McCourt in joining their development squads this summer.
The 18-year-old was born in Bolton to Ukrainian parents originally from Kolomyia and represents the country at under-18 level. He has two caps and made his debut in a 2-1 Uefa Euro U19 qualifying defeat to Kazakhstan in November 2024.
[Speaking to UNN](https://unn.ua/en/news/manchester-united-midfielder-zachary-baumann-receives-ukrainian-passport), Baumann said last year: "I am very happy to have finally become a citizen of Ukraine and now I will be able to represent my country on the international stage.
"There is excitement, but it is positive because I feel the support of many people. I can't wait to meet the team. And forward to our victory. And not only on the football field."
Baumann has been part of the United academy since childhood and has progressed through the tanks at Old Traffold to treble-winning under-18 side in 2023/24.
A central midfielder, the teenager has 43 teams for both their U18 and U21 teams including against City's U21 side in a 4-2 victory for the Red Devils earlier this month.
He signed his first professional contract with Manchester United in September last year, but is believed to be enthused by City's plan for his development. Baumann turns 19 in January and hasn't any involvement with Ruben Amorim's first-team squad.
City have been active in their youth ranks this summer as they look to add talent for the future to their academy.
