Report: Rangers want to sign another star alongside Chermiti, he dreams of Ibrox move

Rangers could look to bring former academy player Kenny McLean to the club with a day left in the transfer window, according to reports - though Norwich City will hope to keep him at the club as they look to earn a return back to the Premier League.

The report by Alan Nixon on his Patreon states that Norwich want McLean to stay at Carrow Road - though Rangers are keen on a deal which could see him swap East Anglia for a return to his homeland.

The experienced star is wanted by Rangers to organise their midfield, with the Gers having drawn all four of their opening fixtures in the Scottish Premiership following a 0-0 stalemate with Celtic on Sunday morning.

McLean has struggled with an ankle injury in recent times, though he cruised in Norwich's huge win at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday in a deep-lying role - and that could prove to be enough for Rangers to be tempted to buy him. A Europa League run - after being knocked out of the Champions League in an embarrassing 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge - could be essential in their bargaining power to tempt him with a move to Ibrox.

The Scotland international is a Rangers fan who is 'dreaming' of the move - and a switch in the next 24 hours could be his last chance of joining his boyhood club, though Norwich are hoping that he can stay with them as they chase promotion to the Premier League after a four-year absence.

McLean was released by Rangers as a 16-year-old, joining St Mirren and starring for them, before moving to Aberdeen aged 23. Three seasons at Pittodrie saw him excel, joining Norwich in the process - and he's been there since, racking up 243 league appearances in that time.

A dependable midfielder, McLean has two goals in 50 caps for Scotland and his experience in a struggling Rangers team could be vital for them in their search for silverware, with the League Cup, Scottish Cup or even a European victory doing wonders for Martin, who is well and truly off to the worst start imaginable in Govan.

A number of signings with genuine experience and quality have come into the club this summer, including Max Aarons and Joe Rothwell among others, but they have not started well and Martin will be hoping that McLean holding down the fort can spring them into life before too long, as well as imminent striker Youssef Chermiti, who is set to join the club from Everton.
