Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for 26-year-old RB Leipzig midfielder Christoph Baumgartner in recent weeks.
As relayed by Philipp Hinze, RB Leipzig midfielder Christoph Baumgartner has now revealed his reasons for rejecting a move to Crystal Palace. The development has come as a huge blow for Crystal Palace, who were hoping to sign the player.
The RB Leipzig playmaker has said, “The club is counting on me, they believe in me. That was shown to me again, especially in the last few days. [I have snubbed Crystal Palace] Because I’m at a great club here, I feel comfortable, and I want to help the team.”
Crystal Palace need to bring in a quality replacement for Eberechi Eze, who has left the club for Arsenal. The Austrian midfielder, who emerged as a viable target, could have been a quality acquisition. He has shown his quality in Germany, and he has the physicality and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League as well.
It remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace decide to move on to other targets now. The Eagles need to improve the squad before the window closes tomorrow. They are lacking in depth and quality in the attacking unit. The departure of the 27-year-old England international has left them light in attack. They must look to bring in a dynamic attacker before the window closes.
Baumgartner not keen on move
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Austrian midfielder has confirmed that he is already playing for a great club, and he feels comfortable at RB Leipzig. The Austrian international is focused on helping the team this season, and he does not wish to leave them anytime soon. The Bundesliga club do not want to sell the player either.
Despite strong interest from the Premier League club, they have maintained that the player is a key part of their plans. They have recently sanctioned the departure of Xavi Simons, and it is no surprise that they do not want to lose another key player in the same window.
Crystal Palace have a talented squad, but they need that extra bit of quality if they want to do well this season. They have recently won the FA Cup and the Community Shield. They will be competing in European football. The Eagles need a deeper squad in order to do well across multiple tournaments. It will be interesting to see if they can bring in the right additions before the window slams shut.
