Ruben Amorim has handled the goalkeeping situation at Manchester United this season like a russian roulette.
He has played Altay Bayindir in the league and Andre Onana in the cup and each one has made fans miss the other.
If someone that Andre Onana had a howler in him now and then, Bayindir seems to have one in him every single game.
He was culpable of Burnley’s second goal last night and managed to save face after Bruno’s late penalty gave the Red Devils the three points.
Amorim has clearly realised that he cannot afford to go into the rest of the season without a new goalkeeper.
Now, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd are trying to sign Aston Villa shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez.
The Red Devils have reached an agreement on personal terms with the World Cup winner and are now opening talks with Aston Villa for the player.
It is a very important signing for Man Utd to get over the line by the transfer deadline.
Romano has mentioned that Emi Martinez is a concrete option for Man Utd, provided they fail to land Senne Lammens.
The Red Devils are also in negotiations with Royal Antwerp for the 23-year-old Belgian shot-stopper.
Emi Martinez has started the new season with Aston Villa but it has seemed since the end of last season that he wanted a move away from the Midlands club. A move to Man Utd could prove to be an excellent choice for the experience Argentinian.
In many ways, the £150,000 a week star is exactly the kind of goalkeeper that Man Utd need at the moment. Supremely bullish about his abilities, he brings about a certain charm in goal and his mere presence instils fear in opposition attackers.
Let’s wait and see if Man Utd manage to convince Aston Villa to sell Emiliano Martinez. It would be a massive signing if they pull it off and let’s wait and see how things play out.
