Unai Emery gives bizarre response to Emiliano Martinez being dropped amid Man United rumours

Manchester United want to finish their summer transfer window by adding a goalkeeper to Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Ineos have narrowed their search down to two goalkeeper options – Emiliano Martinez or Senne Lammens.

While reports have suggested that Lammens is Manchester United’s top target, Royal Antwerp are yet to green-light a deal, leading the Red Devils to consider alternatives.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims United have revived interest in Martinez having previously had a loan offer swatted away by Aston Villa earlier in the window.

With less than 24 hours remaining in the window, the speculation of a Martinez deal ramped up during Aston Villa’s Premier League clash.

Emiliano Martinez dropped by Aston Villa amid Man Utd links

Just days after Lammens was dropped by Antwerp in the midst of transfer speculation, Martinez was nowhere to be seen in Villa’s squad to face Crystal Palace on Sunday evening.

Villa boss Unai Emery was asked about his absence and his response was… unique.

Emery was first asked why Martinez wasn’t in the squad, then where the Argentine is, and then if he will be Villa’s future goalkeeper.

Every question was answered: “Marco Bizot” – Villa’s replacement for Martinez.

The tight-lipped response of Emery certainly suggests that Martinez could be on the move, and United are pushing to get a deal done.

Emiliano Martinez is Man United’s short-term answer

After Andre Onana’s terrible display against Grimsby and Altay Bayindir’s error-filled performances in the Premier League, signing a new goalkeeper has become urgent for United.

Despite Ruben Amorim publicly defending his goalkeepers, behind closed doors it’s clear that Ineos are pushing to sign a new shot-stopper.

In Lammens, United would be signing an extremely exciting prospect who boasts some of the most impressive stats of any goalkeeper in Europe.

But while the 23-year-old has impressive numbers, his mentality and ability to deal with the United spotlight is unknown.

That is where Martinez thrives. A World Cup winner and a two-time FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year winner, the 33-year-old would bring experience and confidence at a time where there is no trust in United’s shot-stoppers.
