Marc Guehi shows his true character after Crystal Palace win as Liverpool eye transfer

Marc Guehi turned down the chance to go over to Crystal Palace fans individually after their 3-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday, amid reports that he could leave Selhurst Park for Liverpool on transfer deadline day. The Reds have less than 24 hours to strike an agreement, having launched a £35million bid for the England international.

Despite speculation surrounding his future, Guehi has continued to play and captain Palace this month. He even scored the third goal from the edge of the box and soaked up the adulation from the travelling Eagles supporters, in what could be the perfect leaving present.

The Mirror claim that as the Palace squad went over to their fanbase once the final whistle had blown, Dean Henderson tried to usher Guehi over, but he refused that idea.

He, instead, wanted to continue clapping and showing his appreciation as part of the group, rather than making the moment more about himself, in a classy gesture from the former Chelsea defender.

His attention will son turn towards transfer deadline day and Liverpool's pursuit, which may be amplified after Ibrahima Konate was forced off in his side's 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Guehi has received a plea to stay at Palace from team-mate Jean-Philippe Mateta, who opened the scoring from the penalty spot to kickstart a superb away victory.

"Every game he brings something new, and he is a fantastic player. I hope he stays with us," Mateta told Sky Sports.

"We work very hard. We have a fantastic manager and fantastic staff. We watched the video, and we did everything on the pitch and that's why it is working.

"I think Marc is the best goal. We sacrifice a lot. We know we have to play all the game. We sacrifice for the team. We have a great group. Hopefully we keep winning."

Palace boss Oliver Glasner has previously stated his desire to keep Guehi in south London, having already sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal this summer for £67.5m.

But Guehi has just one year left on his contract and Palace risk losing him for free in 12 months' time if they do not agree a deal with Liverpool before the transfer deadline closes at 7pm on Monday.

Palace may be closing in on a replacement for Guehi, in a potential boost for Liverpool. According to the London Evening Standard, teenage centre-back Jaydee Canvot is undergoing a medical ahead of an initial £16m transfer from Lille.
