De'Aaron Fox social media vid serves as a reminder of what's to come

Remember when De'Aaron Fox scored 60 points last season? If you don't, social media won't let you forget, nor should it. The highlight video has been circulating recently, and it serves as a reminder of what Spurs fans should be looking forward to when the NBA season starts back up in October. An unstoppable scoring guard with blazing speed and high basketball IQ.

De’Aaron Fox casually dropping 60 points last season with a broken finger and without playing alongside a top-10 player in the league to make his life easier.

Fox is a special player just entering his prime

Two things should stand out to you when watching this highlight clip. For one, the Minnesota Timberwolves were the opponent. They were sixth overall in defensive rating last season. That's a team with several special perimeter defenders and one of the best rim protectors in the league.

We may disagree with Rudy Gobert winning four Defensive Player of the Year awards, but he deserved at least a couple of them. He's the lynchpin of their defense, and much of their success on that side of the floor can be attributed to his presence. (Just not all of it)

The second thing that should stand out is that big golden cup in the middle of the floor, indicating this was an Emirates NBA Cup game. It's clear that the players have taken to that tournament as it's another chance to raise the stakes and play harder since something tangible is on the line. Fox stepped up when the moment called for it and went crazy.

He also did it efficiently, scoring his 60 points on 22/35 (62.9%) from the field and 6/10 (60%) from three. Fox wasn't just completely locked in on scoring either. He added seven assists, three steals, and a block to his stat sheet that night. There was only one other player who had a game with more points than Swipa did: Nikola Jokic.

Nobody else even matched his 60-point total. That's not surprising, though. It's very difficult to reach that many points. Defenses are much more sophisticated than they were in the past, albeit less physical. But he was scoring from all over the floor, and that makes it harder to stop him. So, for the people who are worrying about what he can do from the perimeter, don't.

That's only one example of what he can do when he wants to put the ball in the basket. The former Kings franchise guard also had a 49-point performance last season. That one flies under the radar because it's not the big round number 50 that people love to see, but it was still impressive. He shot 16-30 (53.3%) on all field goals and 3-4 (75%) that game, giving him two of the top-20 scoring nights all season.

The Spurs nabbed one of the coldest players in the league. He can get his shot off just about any time he wants, and he compromises defenses in a way that opens up the floor for his teammates. It's exactly what we want Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper to be able to do, but we don't have to wait to see it. Fox can and will do it now.
