Man United to block midfielder from leaving Old Trafford

Manchester United picked up their first win of the Premier League season on Saturday as they beat Burnley 3-2.

The Red Devils took the lead at Old Trafford through an own goal, before Lyle Foster drew the visitors level.

Bryan Mbeumo then restored the hosts’ advantage with his first league goal for the club, before Jaidon Anthony once again levelled things up.

The game looked set to finish as a draw until United were awarded a penalty deep into added time, which captain Bruno Fernandes duly converted to secure all three points.

The result leaves Ruben Amorim’s side ninth in the table heading into the international break, and the Portuguese will be desperate to see his side improve when the premier League returns.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the Manchester side have prevented one of their current stars from leaving the club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United have rejected midfielder Kobbie Maine’s request to leave the club before the end of the transfer window.

It is claimed that the England international is keen to leave Old Trafford on loan in order to secure more regular first team football, but United have stood firm and aren’t willing to allow the 20-year-old to depart.

Mainoo is a product of United’s youth system and enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough season for the club in 2023/24.

He was hampered by injures last term, though, and has fallen somewhat out of favour under Amorim.

The Englishman hasn’t started any of United’s three Premier League games so far, with his first league appearance of the season so far coming as a substitute against the Clarets on Saturday.

Romano claims that United had initially decided against allowing Mainoo to leave, and their decision has been reiterated by injuries to both Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha over the weekend.

In total, Mainoo has played 74 times for United across all competitions.
