Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner reaffirmed his stance that Marc Guehi must not be sold on Deadline Day after his stellar performance at Aston Villa.
**Here's every word from Glasner:**
"Marc is so professional and it was clear he would play today. I can say it with all clarity, and I said it to the chairman, it is nothing to do with Oliver Glasner but we need to keep Marc to play a successful season.
"We had a meeting in March where we talked about the situation, so again we know how the situation is, and we had an agreement that we could sell Marc if we have the right replacement.
"We wanted to have this at the beginning of the pre-season to be independent from this situation.
"This was the 9th of July, it’s the 31 August, and there is no replacement in the building, so it’s clear that one part of the agreement is not fulfilled, which means we can’t sell Marc.
It’s not a wish or gift from Oliver Glasner, it’s necessary for playing a successful season. We had a great start and our fans deserve to have the best players available.
"I know if we don’t sell Marc he will accept it. He loves the club and team, he feels the appreciation and we feel the same from his side. That’s why we need to keep him.
"There is no deal. We can decide, he’s our player, he’s under contract, he’s not striking. Nobody forces anybody to sign a deal. It’s up to us.
"The only one who decides if Marc stays at Palace or not is our chairman.
"I agree with what the chairman said. It’s a situation where a player has one year left on contract, that is why we talked in March about it.
"We knew this was the situation, and it can happen. We said okay, either we are prepared and have the replacement in the building, he has pre-season with us, and then we can agree to a deal, but if the replacement is not here, we don’t agree to a deal.
"This was our conversation and it’s all about the future of Crystal Palace, about this season.
"We have had successful, great times, maybe the most successful in its history. It's incredible how this group of players are performing with passion and commitment.
"Everyone knows the foundation is our defence, fourth clean sheet in six games. Marc is not a small part, he's our captain.
"There is no option to sell him. I don’t have the final decision. I can be that clear because I have been that clear internally as well.
"I completely understand the club, the club completely understands me. The club has to make a decision on which direction it will go. Let's see what happens tomorrow.
"He knows it, but the situation is tempting. I understand completely. It's not an easy decision to take.
"We know about the (club’s) finances, but I still think that if you have a very good season, then the revenues we can get, the value of the other players increases over the year.
"We can see this year, when we won the FA Cup, every single player’s value is more than when they play a bad season.
"On the other side, you can always say if I can take it, so take it. The other things are more in the future. It's a tempting, challenging situation.
"I completely understand, but I am responsible for sports. This group did fantastically the last couple of months.
"If we want to progress, we have to keep him. If we say we accept, maybe falling a step back, we sell him."
