Luke Edwards shares why Newcastle would be prepared to accept lower than £150m for Alexander…

Newcastle United could sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool on deadline day.

The deadline for the summer transfer window shuts at 7pm BST on Monday and the biggest deal of the summer could still take place.

Major money transfers do not always happen on deadline day but it seems Isak really could get his wish to leave Newcastle United.

Indeed, Newcastle have dropped their asking price for Isak. All summer, there have been reports suggesting they were holding out for £150million.

Still, recent claims from Luke Edwards in The Daily Telegraph suggest that owners PIF would now be prepared to cash in for £130million.

That’s still a huge amount of money of course but it’s not what Newcastle have been saying they wanted. To sell Isak without signing a replacement too feels even worse than accepting a lower fee.

Replying to supporters on social media platform X, Edwards shared even more insight.

Why Newcastle United dropped their asking price for Alexander Isak

Edwards was asked why Newcastle would suddenly lower their demands so close to the deadline passing.

He revealed that, simply, it was because of the player’s behaviour. Isak does not want to play for Newcastle anymore and has made that abundantly clear throughout this damaging saga.

It’s up to the Newcastle United owners now, it seems. PIF could hardly be blamed for wanting rid of a player prepared to set fire to his relationship with the club, but to lower their demands AND fail to sign a replacement will no doubt be the biggest kick in the teeth for supporters.

Alexander Isak to Liverpool is not certain

Isak is confident he will sign for Liverpool and, given Newcastle’s supposed back-tracking, there’s every reason to be.

Still, that doesn’t mean a move to Anfield is an absolute certainty. Newcastle appear to be making that easier, but there’s no guarantee.

Shortly after the bombshell news broke, Edwards offered a further update.

He suggested that Newcastle are not definitely going to sell Isak to Liverpool and that nothing is certain, even at this late stage of the window.

Monday will be a very interesting day indeed…
