Liverpool transfer news with Marc Guehi hint as Alexander Isak price suddenly drops

After a summer of transfer drama, Liverpool has just a few hours left in the window to conclude deals for Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi. And should they get over the line, it will finish an exciting summer.

Liverpool has already broken its transfer record for one player —Florian Wirtz — and might yet smash it again to bring Isak in. Adding Guehi as well would leave Arne Slot with a strong roster.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. The clock is ticking louder and louder with the window slamming shut at 7pm UK time (2pm ET).

Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

The saga that never seems to end will soon come to a conclusion. One way or another, we will know where the immediate future of Alexander Isak lies by the end of the day.

According to The Telegraph, while Newcastle had insisted that Isak would be going nowhere for a time, and then that he would cost an unmatchable amount of money, it will now sanction a departure for the Swede for a fee of $175 million (£130 million).

Liverpool was never going to reach the mystical $200 million (£150 million) valuable that had been floated in some quarters and had opened the bidding at a respectable $148 million (£110 million).

Right near the end of the window, it appears that a resolution is nearing with Newcastle having signed Nick Woltemade this week.

Crucially, the report says that Newcastle will sell Isak even if it doesn't bring in another option to play up top. Moves for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa and Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen have both failed to come off.

Newcastle has been rejected by numerous strikers this summer (including Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike), but it appears that Woltemade coming in will grant Isak his wish.

Isak has burned bridges at Newcastle in a bid to force an exit and the Magpies' fans have turned on him. If he doesn't make the switch to Anfield then it will be a long, long way back before he can reintegrate.

Liverpool.com says: It has always felt likely that Newcastle would relent on its position at some stage. It appears that might have happened now, hopefully just in time.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Normally, players who could be on the move do not play for their teams. In the case of Marc Guehi, though, Crystal Palace has continued to field him — and he hasn't complained.

Guehi was a vital player as Crystal Palace qualified for the UEFA Conference League and then scored in a great 3-0 away win at Aston Villa this weekend. If his strike at Villa Park was a parting gift, it was a very nice one.

At the final whistle, Guehi appeared to be pushed towards the Crystal Palace fans by goalkeeper Dean Henderson. He was reluctant to take the acclaim, however, and wasn't giving much away in his post-match interview.

While Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has already admitted that an exit is in the best interest of his side, rather than losing him for nothing, manager Oliver Glasner is still insistent that he can't lose his captain. The clock is ticking.

Liverpool.com says: Guehi is a good player and he will rotate into the team at times. He might even offer Joe Gomez the chance to move on amid interest from AC Milan if he does come through the door.
