West Ham United delivered a shocking blow to Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon as Graham Potter’s side ran out 3-0 winners at City Ground.
The Hammers went into the game on the back of a three-match losing streak that sparked whispers about Potter potentially getting axed.
For much of the game, it seemed like West Ham would have to wait until after the international break to get their first win of the season.
However, they turned things around in the dying embers of the game. Jarrod Bowen broke the deadlock with a low drive before Lucas Paqueta doubled their advantage.
Callum Wilson added the cherry on top with a fine header in stoppage time after getting on the end of a pinpoint cross from summer signing El Malick Hadji Diouf.
Despite the thumping scoreline, Paqueta stole the spotlight after a celebration that effectively put an end to the speculation around his long-term future.
Paqueta more likely to stay at West Ham this summer
Paqueta has been linked with a move away from the London Stadium this summer.
West Ham had reportedly turned down an offer from Tottenham Hotspur, while Aston Villa were also in talks to bring him to Birmingham.
However, Paqueta took matters into his own hands to shut down the rumours.
After slotting home his penalty, he celebrated by making a phone sign and throwing it away before kissing the West Ham badge in front of the travelling fans.
When asked if the Brazilian will remain at the club after Monday’s deadline, Potter said (via BBC): “Yes.
“The noise has been around Lucas [Paqueta] for a long time, and the way he conducts himself is incredible.
“He gave everything for the team again today and contributed with a goal and the win.”
West Ham captain also weighed in on the transfer rumours, urging fans to “not believe everything you read online. Some people didn’t think he’d turn up and play, but he turned up and scored.”
