He has broken a record which stood for almost 106 years and was set by a striker born in 1881.
The former Liverpool midfielder opened his account for the club with a penalty against another of his old clubs, Manchester City.
He found the net at the age of 39 years and 239 days.
The previous oldest, Bill ‘Bullet’ Jones, was 38 years and 208 days old when he netted in a 3-0 win at home to Gillingham in the Southern League in October, 1919.
Jones, a centre-forward who stood just 5ft 5ins, hailed from Tipton in the West Midlands and started his career at Small Heath, who later became Birmingham City.
He played for Albion either side of the First World War.
Although he retired a couple of months after that last goal, he continued to appear occasionally for the reserves for another eight years – or well into his 40s.
He went on to serve the club as assistant trainer, scout and groundsman and died in Hove in 1948.

Murray’s last goal for the club secured a 3-3 draw at West Ham in the 2019-20 season (pictured above).
He was 36 years, 129 days old at the time.
